System: Euler (abbrebiated SE) is a type-one hypervisor—an operating system that runs many operating system in parallel.
SE is made for 386 (also known as x86 or IA-32) and
amd64, ARM support is on the roadmap as a second-class
architecture; but not currently a priority, and thus - won’t probably be
added in a long time.
It is built on the VMX technology, so it should support virtually every (Intel) CPU prior to 2015.
SE follows many ideas from the Plan 9 operating system; including (but not limited to!):
- per-process namespaces;
- 9P;
- everything-is-a-file;
- and many more.
Licensing
SE is under the public domain or (at your option, of course) the venerable MIT license.
It’s source code may be found here, and the copyright holder is The System: Euler Project, for the MIT.
